Oh he also used to take them netting too on the local farmers fields.

The neighbours loved him and so did the local farmers and butchers!

A mate of mine used to live near a stream and they had rats and mice all over the place.
He bought 2 ferrets and put them in a cage in the garden and would let them run about everywhere when he was there.
Hey presto all the rats and mice went away as they are shit scared of ferrets as they don't like the smell and they know they will kill them and eat them.

That sounds awful mate you already have the best Rodent repellent known to man in the Cats but alas they are in a difficult place to get at . Your house sounds like something the big bad wolf could have had a run at. Good Luck though i bloody hate Rats and mice, but they are very common.

If you're renting, why not get the landlord on the case?

I would definitely inform the Environmental Health re.the broken drain cover/standing drain water anyway

You should be able to get their number fairly easily through your local council

It's a new product that they get on them and then lick and die hopefully.

Peed off with it now, it's making me feel low and ill, I have a horrible headache that won't go away today and feel sick, I am never ill but I am about to go home from work but what do I go home to? I want to move out, I would but we have Cats so G-d knows.
Have sent my landlords a strong email, if they don't sort this out asap I will call environmental health.

We do also have a recurring badly blocked drain with standing water going into our garden and next door's and a broken drain cover that is still covering the drain. The pest control guy reckoned it was not the drains but I am not so sure now. Landlords have been twice to sort it but it keeps blocking, I told them about the drain cover months ago.

I live in a rural area where we are prone to rats & mice in the outbuildings from time to time

We have 4 cats that regularly catch rats, mice, voles shrews etc but have little significant impact when we get a surge (After barley crops have been harvested)

When the Foot & Mouth epidemic was on the Ministry came down in their white suits with special bait (not authorised for use by the general public!) which they put in special boxes

2 days later they came back & picked up all the carcasses which they took away to be disposed of. (There were a lot of them ~ far more than we were expecting). They wouldn't let us have any of the special bait but did allow us to keep the special boxes

A few years later we started to have trouble with rodents & went to our local farm supply shop & got some new rat bait. It's called "Roban" (there are other brands which apparently work as well) which smells of bubblegum & is wrapped in a thing rather like & about the size of a tea bag

It works incredibly well, but it is very important to follow the instructions:-

1.always wear gloves not only because the stuff's very poisonous but also Weals disease is transmitted via rat urine

2. Make sure no other animals can come in contact with the poison by putting it in an enclosed location (behind the cornices in your case I should think)
We use the special boxes (which you can buy but are expensive) or sometimes bang a line of nails in an old piece of skirting board & stick a piece of bait on each before leaning agaist the bottom of a wall with the bait facing inwards

If the pest controller is using something that looks like blue-coated corn, he is wasting his time. It's a cheap warfarin-based bait that is worse than useless as the rats/mice have a habit of carrying it off to eat at a later date

I've come across little piles of it in the wall cavities when doing building work & it's obviously been there for decades!

FOAM? What's he going to do, shave them to death?

May as well ask him to bring along some silly string and a selection of Christmouse crackers, too.

Ho, Ho, fucking, HO.

I read somehere that mice have very sensitive noses, and strong smells like peppermint really piss them off. Try putting a small dish of peppermint oil where you suspect they are.

Brent, you need to fill all the holes but leave one as EXIT only.

They can get in through waste/soil pipes, under eaves/soffits. Very resourceful, have to admire them.

They are usually attracted to food in the first place, but it then just becomes a shelter/nesting place. They have great memories too - it may be that they nested in your gaff ages ago and have been moved on...
